The Smart Fruit Phenomics Team at the Blueberry Breeding and Genomics Laboratory is looking for students interested in applying engineering solutions for classifying blueberries. The team study methods for using robotic devices for improving multimodal phenotypic data and provide plant breeders with more accurate data.
We are looking for students with experience / interest on the following areas:
- Mechanical and electrical design (Fast prototyping, 3d printers, microcontrollers)
- Computer vision / A.I. (Yolo, R-CNN models, autoencoders)
- Speech recognition / A.I. (Transformations: FFT, regression models)
Compensation:
$15 / hour (20h / week)
Field of Study:
Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering
Required:
- Be able to work in loco
- Be willing to explore and find alternative solutions
- Be open to participate in all the steps of the research. It may include prototyping, testing, data collection, field visits, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
Nice to Have:
- Software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D modeling software
- PCB Design and Electronics Prototyping
- Experience in mechatronics and robotics projects
- Programming languages: C++, Python, or MATLAB
- Knowledge of control systems and instrumentation
